Abstract

163,291. Martiny, G. von, and Horvath, L. May 8, 1920, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Switches, q u i c k - action; contacts.-Relates to snap-action switches of the type in which a buckled spring blade or plate is first moved to an unstable position and then springs over into a position of reversed curvature. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the bowed elastic plate c has shoes d supported in recesses c of the two-part lensshaped casing a, b, its length being greater than the distance between its supporting axes. A screw h passes through the centre of the spring plate c, securing to it push buttons f, g and a contact plate i. Depression of either push button moves the plate c first to an unstable middle position, Fig. 6, from which the spring snaps over to its opposite position. In the switch-opening operation, the stationary contact springs k are in contact with the plate i until the intermediate unstable position is reached, effecting simultaneously the snap-action and circuit breaking operations. Figs. 7 and 8 show a further modification, the spring blade c being mounted between the angles r<1> of a spring r, its lower curve resting against an outer push button t mounted in the lower casing member n, and its upper ends abutting in a recess o<1> of the upper casing member a. At the centre of the spring plate c is secured a contact plate p and an inner push-button s reciprocating within the outer push-button t. Pressure of the push-button t with the switch closed, Fig. 7, causes the angles r' to move apart, and interaction between the springs r and s brings the latter to its intermediate position, from which it snaps over, thereby opening the switch, in which position the inner push button s projects through the outer push button l. Pressure on the push button s snaps the switch back to its closed position. This switch may be modified by making only one of the angles r' movable, and the place c may consist of a thin elastic diaphragm or a bundle of elastic metal wires.
