Abstract

876,336. Actuation of switches. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Jan. 5, 1960 [Jan. 15, 1959], No. 327/60. Class 38 (5) A cam-operated switch has fixed contacts 24, 26 mounted on phosphor-bronze strips riveted to terminals 14, 16 and a movable contact 32 at one end of a phosphor-bronze spring blade 28 riveted at the other end to a similar terminal 12. A cam-follower member 40 (Fig. 4) is threaded on the contact blade 28, the arrangement of cross-bars 48, 50 and 58 being such that the blade 28 is bowed upward, away from the lower fixed contact 24, and the blade 28 is also given a set in the same direction at a point 30. Depression of the cam-follower 52 causes contacts 32 and 24 to engage, the pressure of the centre bar 50 then increasing the bowing of the blade 28. Thus over-travel of the cam-follower does not cause excessive force to be exerted on the cam.
