Abstract

834,752. Retractive switches; keyboard switches. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. June 10, 1958 [June 17, 1957], No. 18480/58. Class 38 (5). A switch comprises a die-cast housing 20 having an insulating base 22 on which two sheets of resilient metal 32 and 36 are fixed by rivets 42, one of which forms a terminal 44. The sheet 32 has four pairs of cut-out strips 46 and 48 bent upwardly as shown in Fig. 3, each carrying a contact member 34. Fixed contacts 40, connected to terminals 38, are provided in the base 22 beneath contacts 34. The sheet 36 has cut-out strips 52 and 53 overlying strips 46 and 48 and engaging the corners 54 of actuator members 28, four of which are pivoted on a common rod 30 in individual openings 24 in housing 20. When an actuator 28 is pivoted, for example, to the left in Fig. 3, a corner 54 forces a strip 52 downwardly to depress strip 48 and cause contact 34 to engage the respective fixed contact 40. When the actuator 28 is released the strip 52 pivots it back to its central position shown and the resiliency of sheet 32 is such that the engagement between contacts 34 and 40 is then broken.
