Abstract

984,832. Retractive switches. VIGILANT SWITCHGEAR Ltd. Sept. 13, 1963 [June 16, 1962], No. 23276/62. Heading H2B. A snap-action electrical switch comprises a movable contact 16 carried on a blade 17 secured to a conducting strip 19 and a fixed contact 14 mounted on a further conducting strip 13. The end 20 of the strip 19 is bent upwards and engages in a groove in the top wall 11 of the switch housing 10 and the contacts 14, 16 are each surrounded by a ferro-magnetic member, one of which is permanently magnetized, to bias the contacts into engagement. The contacts are disengaged by a plunger which acts on the blade 17, and to allow over-travel a spring is provided between the strip 19 and the base of the housing. In another embodiment the strip 19 is omitted and the blade 38 is connected to an external electric circuit via a flexible member 41 (Fig. 4). Also two fixed contacts 31, 33 are provided to form a change-over switch. The ferro-magnetic members may be replaced by a pair of springs extending along opposite sides of the blade 17 or 38 and tensioned between laterally projecting ears at each end of the blade so as to provide an over-centre snap action arrangement, a restoring spring being provided to return the plunger to its original position.
