Abstract

590,870. Press-button retractive switches; snap- .action switches. JENNINGS, H. W. K., (First Industrial Corporation). April 24, 1945, No. 10310. [Class 38 (v)] A snap-action switch comprises an anchor 16 secured to the switch base 10, an actuating arm 24 pivoted to the anchor, a leaf-spring 20 in tension and a compression spring 22, one of these springs being supported at one end on the arm 24 and co-operating with the other spring to produce the snap-action. In the Figure, the springs 20, 22, are joined together at their right hand ends and carry a contact 36 co-operating with a fixed contact 38. The left hand ends of springs 20, 22, are attached to the anchor 16 and a shoulder 24a on the arm 24 respectively. A spring 26 normally biasses the arm 24 counterclockwise, as shown, to close the contacts, but when a button 46 is depressed, arm 24 rotates clockwise and moves the left hand end of spring 22 across the centre line of spring 20 to open the contacts with a snap-action. On release of the button, the contacts reclose. Adjustable screws 32, 42, limit the upward movement of the arm 24 and contact 36 respectively. A magnet 44 extinguishes any arcs that may form. The insulating casing 10, 12, has a protective metal housing 13.
