576,821. Partly electromagnetic switches; snap-action switches. C.A.V., Ltd., and CURZON, T. Oct. 6, 1944, No. 4778/45. Divided out of 568,714. [Class 38 (v)] Upon the occurrence of abnormal current a bimetal strip c or other thermal element moves a contact b away from a contact a whereupon an electromagnet e in shunt with the contacts becomes energised, attracts its armature f which carries the contact a, further separates the contacts and holds them open. A hand operated switch may be arranged in circuit with the above device and incorporated in the same structure. This hand switch is operated by pulling or pushing a knob 3 thereby compressing one of two springs 6 till contacts x connected by a spring bridging member z snap out of V-shaped notches y or 9 into notches 9 or y and so break or complete the circuit between contacts w.
