Abstract
682,673. Thermal switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 26, 1949 [June 3, 1948], No. 14127/49. Class 38 (v) [Also in Groups XI and XXXV] A thermally operated transfer switch in an electric hot-plate permits an initial high wattage arrangement to function until a thermally responsive blade 21 causes a first set of contacts 27, 28, 29 to be broken and a record set of contacts 30, 31 to be closed whereby the high voltage arrangement is replaced by one of low wattage (see Group XI). The transfer switch at room temperature is normally positioned as shown and until the contacts 27, 28, 29 are parted and any resultant arc extinguished, a wound magnet 42 holds the contact 31 away from the contact 30 to prevent a short circuit of the supply. A permanent magnet 37, Fig. 2, on the blade 21, coacts with a fixed metal plate 38 to ensure a snap action of the transfer switch. The switch is enclosed in a heat resisting tube 24 provided with a heat conductive cap 23 to which the thermally responsive blade 21 is connected. Specification 662,866 is referred to.
