Abstract
617,112. Thermal switches. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. July 16, 1946, No. 21223. Convention date, June 16, 1942. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XL (a)] A thermal switch in an electric discharge tube, which opens or closes contacts in an electrical circuit in response to the heat from an incandescent electrode, .comprises a semicylindrical bimetallic element 9 which shields the electrode 2 in the direction of the electrode 3. The bimetal 9 moves the lower end of a wire 11 into or out of contact with the end of the supply wire 13, and is supported from the electrode support wire 5. On expansion of the bimetal 9 the wire 11 is moved against a wire contact 18 on the electrode support wire 4, to short-circuit the electrode 2 after initiation of the discharge.
