Abstract

572,005. Thermal switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., JENKINS, H. G., and NOBLE, S. H. June 10, 1942, No. 7967. [Class 38 (v)] A thermal glow switch for starting discharge devices is arranged for the thermal element to be heated, alternatively to the " glow," by a heater operating when the switch is closed. This is effected in the example by carrying one contact 11 in the free end of a bimetal U-strip 1, the fixed end being connected to a heater 4 enclosed in a heat-storing case. On switching on, " glow " occurs between contacts 10, 11 and the glow current also heats heater 4 until contacts 10, 11 meet. If the lamp repeatedly fails to start residual heat in heater keeps contacts closed and even causes contacts to slide over and separate from one another on the other side the " glow " restarting to keep the contacts separated until a main switch is operated.
