Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the construction of a lamp, by applying a combined use of a thermally operated switch for generating a high voltage pulse to a switch for electrically disconnecting a proximity conductor from electrodes. CONSTITUTION:A bimetal piece 24 is displaced to its reset position because a lamp is in a cold state when it is started. When a power source 31 is turned on, a filament 20 is conduted to flow an electric current. If a heat generation of the filament 20 is promoted, the bimetal piece 24 is curved to apply a high voltage pulse to between electrodes 15a, 15b and start an electric discharge. When the lamp is shifted its operation toward a stable lighting after a starting of the discharge, the bimetal piece 24 is further curved causing a proximity conductor 16 to be electrically disconnected from both of the electrodes 15a, 15b.
