Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the overheating and burning damage of stabilizer by providing in series with a luminous tube a nonrestoring type heat-sensitive element operable by a current more than a specific value of a lamp current during stabilized period in rated power voltage. CONSTITUTION:In the starter-built in type metal vapor discharge lamp 1, using a mercury lamp stabilizer, the starter 2 consisting of the bimetal switch 3 and the heating resistor 4, the luminous tube 5 confined with sodium, etc., having electrodes on its both sides, and the starter aid conductor 7 are provided inside the outer tube 6, and also the luminous tube 5 is connected in series with the nonrestoring type heat-sensitive element 11, e.g., fuse wire, etc. The heat-sensitive element 11 is operated at a current more than 2.04 times the lamp current during the stabilized period at the rated power voltage. Thus, when a dielectric breakdown occurs in the stabilizer and overcurrent flows due to the lowering of its inductance, the heat- sensitive element begins to operate soon and the burning damage of the stabilizer can be prevented.
