Abstract

599,517. Retractive switches; thermal switches. GAUNT, E. Sept. 26, 1945, No. 24924. [Class 38(v)] [Also in Group XXXVI] An adaptor for an electrically heated flat iron includes a switch, controlled by a lever which is operated to switch on the current when grasped with the handle of the iron or when the iron occupies an up-ended position on a support. A thermal control switch is also provided in the adaptor (see Group XXXVI). The lever is spring - anchored to a rock-shaft 9 provided with a flat 9A which causes resilient blades 17, 17A to abut contacts 19, 19A when the lever is operated. The thermal switch consists of a bimetallic strip 23 anchored at 23A to the adaptor casing 8 and is provided with an insulating block 24 disposed adjacent to a resilient contact blade 25 which is connected to a terminal 21 and contacts another blade 26. The blade 26 is depressed by a spindle 28 operated by a knob 27 and carrying a pin 29 abutting a cam track 30. A heat conducting blade 31 is connected with the strip 23 which when distorted into engagement with the blade 25 opens the circuit.
