Abstract
642,178. Electrically released switches. NECHVATAL, V. Dec. 31, 1947, No. 35063. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 31, 1947] [Class 38(v)] A thermally-released circuit-breaker comprises a bimetal strip 3 bent at one end into a circle 1 into which is placed a heating element 6 carrying the current in the protected circuit, the other end of the strip being in the form of a hook 5 which normally engages a spring-biassed lever 4. The latter is thus held in engagement with a contact 10 which shunts part of the current through strip 3. On overload, the lever 4 is released and the circuit opens at contacts 4, 10, an alarm circuit and earthing circuit being made when lever 4 engages a contact 9 on an earthing strip 7. The sensitivity of the breaker is varied by adjusting the relative diameters of the circle 1 and heater 6. The breaker is reset by depressing a button 8, which also acts as an indicator.
