Abstract

801,206. Snap-action switches. VOLEX ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS, Ltd., COUYOUMDJIAN, A. O., and HUGHES, J. G. K. Jan. 1, 1955, No. 11/55. Class 38 (5). In a snap-action tumbler switch of the type in which a rockable contact lever is caused to tilt and so engage a fixed contact by means of a dolly whose point of engagement moves from one side of the lever fulcrum to the other, the lever fulcrum comprises an edge of a metal block which is a switch terminal. Pressure from a roller 33, which is carried in a dolly 31, on a leaf spring 38 held in a cradle 37 resting on a rockable contact lever 19 tilts the lever about the edge of a contact terminal 13 as fulcrum bringing a moving contact 21 to engage a fixed contact 26. Snap action is provided by the spring blade 38 whose " bulge " is rapidly transferred from one end to the other on operation of the dolly. In modifications the spring blade is dispensed with and the cradle, suitably slotted and provided with contacts, acts as the lever. Alternatively the snap action may be provided by a spring-loaded ball incorporated in the dolly.
