626,179. Sparking-preventing in switches. MEASUREMENT, Ltd., and HEWLETT, S. J. May 23, 1947, No. 13929. [Class 38(v)] The movable main and arcing contacts g, f respectively of a switch suitable for use with an electric meter, are carried on a conducting strip e and located and urged by a spring m into engagement with fixed main and arcing contacts a, b respectively. When an opening force is applied to the end o, the strip e pivots about the contact b, to separate contacts a, g until the other end of strip e engages an abutment k on the base c, whereupon the strip e pivots about said end and the contacts b, f separate. The screwed stem of contact b may be of high resistance material so as to reduce the current to be broken by contacts b, f.
