[Class 38(v)) The movable contact, or contact-carrying member of a push-button switch comprises a U-shaped member 3 having its limbs astride an insulating guide 2 and provided on its centre portion with recesses 12, 13 which are alternately engaged by the pushbutton 1, slidable in the guide 2, under the action of springs 4 situated on either side of the contact 3 and connected between it and a fixed plate 17. On pressing the button 1 the contact 3 is lifted, from the position shown in full lines in Fig. 1, until projections 11 clear a cam surface 16 thus permitting the contact to pivot about the recess 12 and come to rest with the projections 11 against central cam surfaces 14. During this movement the projections 11 break the circuit between contacts 8 and further projections 10 bridge contacts 6. On release of the button, the contact 3 pivots about the projections 11 and the projections 10 slide through the contacts 6, thereby clearing them, and come to rest on the plate 17 beyond a further cam surface 15; also, the other recess 13 moves into engagement with the push-button, the further actuation of which restores the switch to its initial condition. In a modification, the member 3 is of insulating material having conducting projections 10 which bridge the contacts 6 to form a simple switch.
