Abstract
636,023. Press-button retractive switches; snap action switches. ROBERTSHAWFULTON CONTROLS CO. Feb. 26, 1948, No. 5751. Convention date, April 4, 1947. [Class 38 (v)] A snap-action switch has a leaf-spring 16 adjustably compressed between recessed brackets 17, 18 and engaged by projections 14, 15 so as to have two sections 22, 23 of opposite curvature. Section 23 supports an insulating block 26 carrying contacts 34 which normally bridge fixed contacts 36. An operating plunger 44 has a depending bracket 47 supporting a member 48 enclosing a compression spring 50, such that on depression of the plunger 44 the spring section 22 is first flattened and the contacts 34, 36 pressed more firmly together and then the spring 16 reverses in shape and the contacts separate. In this position, the spring section 22 engages a post 51 on the member 48 which is limited in its travel by a shoulder 52 on the body 10. On release of the plunger 44, the switch immediately recloses; alternatively, it may be of the normally-open type or may be operated in both directions by external means, and an additional contact may be provided above the member 26 so as to be engaged by a contact on the latter when the contacts 34, 36 are disengaged.
