Abstract
657,130. Retractive switches; snap-action switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 1, 1948, No. 25634. Convention date, Oct. 7, 1947. [Class 38(v)] A snap-action switch comprises a flanged metal frame 3 having reversely-bent ends 10, 12 supporting under compression a leaf spring 1 welded at 4 to the end 10 but slidable in the end 12. The spring 1 is slipped into the frame, from the centre, through a slot 19 until a contact 2 thereon abuts the frame shoulders 17 and is then moved oppositely into the end 12. The assembly is held in a fixture to compress the spring 1 while it is welded at the end 10. The opposed frame shoulders 17, 18 are accurately formed and projections 14, 15 serve to centralize the spring. The frame 3 is assembled in a casing comprising a base 20 and cover 21, the base 20 supporting contacts 23, 24 and a plunger 27 on a pivoted arm 28. The spring 1 is biassed by a spring 29 so that normally contacts 2, 23 engage. Alternatively, the spring 1 may be positively actuated in each direction. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes an arrangement in which both ends of the leaf spring are welded to the frame, Fig. 4, (Cancelled), (not shown). This subject-matter does not annear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 655,549.
