Abstract
614,812. Snap-action switches. BEER, D.C. Aug. 1, 1946, No. 22905. [Class 38 (v)] A snap-action switch has a trifurcated blade spring with the free ends of its outer limbs 2 joined by a transverse member 4 which rests in a V-slot 7 formed in a cylindrical part 5 of the operating lever 6. The free end of the bowed tongue 1 engages in another V-slot 8, and the butt end of the blade spring carries a contact 15 which bridges either of two pairs of contacts 13, 14. Movement of the lever 6 carries the end of the tongue 1 overcentre to snap the spring with contact 15 from one position to the other. The self-aligning bridge contact 15, Fig. 5, may be of channel-section and fixed by a projection 17 which passes through a hole 20 in the spring. In a modification, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), a spring strip is clipped around the cylindrical part to support the end of the tongue, and in a further modification the operating member is formed by an indented U-shaped strip. The spring and operating member, on assembly, are inserted sideways into the casing 9 and front and back covers are attached, but in the modification the casing complete with covers is formed in two halves split along a line through the axis of the operating member.
