Abstract
527,630. Thermal switches. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. March 10, 1939, No. 7752. Convention date, March 25, 1938. [Class 38 (v)] A thermal switch comprises a contact arm 20 fulcrummed at its left hand end on a slotted stud 36 and carrying near its other end a contact 17 for engagement with pairs of fixed contacts 16, 18. The arm 20 is formed with side wings 16 to which are riveted the ends of a blade spring 22 which passes through an aperture 42 in the arm where its middle point is held by an adjustable stud 53. This serves to make the contact arm engage one or other pair of fixed contacts and to move with a snap-action. The slotted free end of the arm 20 engages, with lost motion, a groove in an impact pin 24 which is coupled by a spring clip 75 to the free end of a bimetallic strip 28 clamped at 92. The upper end of pin 24 is provided with adjustable nuts 80, 84 for damping a blade spring 26. This results in the pin 24 moving suddenly and operating the arm 20 with snap-action. The operating temperature is varied by means of a screw 34 bearing on the bimetallic strip and the differential is varied by means of the clamping nuts 80, 84.
