Abstract
511,656. Thermal snap action switches. THERMA ELECTRIC HEATING MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. Sept. 17, 1938, No. 27193. Convention date, Aug. 10. [Class 38 (v)] A thermally controlled snap-action switch comprises a movable contact 7 co-operating with fixed contacts 9, 9<1> and carried by a switch lever 6 which is pivoted about a fixed point 8 and connected by a tension spring 5 to a pivoted trip lever 3 working between stops 4, 4<1>, the pivot 2 of the trip lever being movable transversely of the spring, to carry the latter towards and past its dead-centre position with respect to the switch lever, by a bimetallic control strip 1. As shown in Figs. 1 and 4, which show the same switch in its closed and open positions respectively, the pivot 2 is carried by the free end of the bimetallic strip. In the open position, the switch lever is arrested by a stop ; the latter may however, be replaced by a second pair of fixed contacts to provide a change-over switch. The stops 4, 4' may be adjustable to permit regulation of control. For the same purpose the pivot 2 may be mounted on a lever 11, Fig. 5, to which the bimetallic strip 1 is pivoted, movement of the lever being controlled by fixed and adjustable stops 14, 13, respectively.
