Abstract

641,645. Electromagnetic switches; oilbreak switches. MACOUN, V. Oct. 15, 1946, No. 30688. Convention date, Jan. 29, 1945. [Class 38(v)] A multi-phase electromagnetic switch comprises a magnet unit 1 readily separable from a contact unit 2. In the form shown in Figs. 1, 5, the fixed magnet 5 is mounted within the coil body 1 and the movable armature 5<SP>1</SP> is attached by a pin 12 to a stirrup 7 fixed to a pin 8 which extends into the contact body 2 and carries loosely a three-armed member 9 biassed by a spring 10. The member 9 has clamped to the end of each of its arms a strip with end contacts 16 adapted to engage fixed contacts 19. The armature is urged downwards by springs not shown and the casing may be filled with oil. A plate 3 between the units 1, 2 serves to shut off the contact-chambers 4. The armature carries an auxiliary contact 14. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also, Fig. 10 (Cancelled), an oil switch with the contact unit 2 at the bottom and connected to the magnet unit 1 by arms 24. The movable armature 5<SP>1</SP>, as in Fig. 1, is pressed down by springs 23<SP>1</SP> and these normally overpower a spring 10<SP>1</SP> tending to force the contact member 9 into the closed position shown. Energization of the magnet pulls up the armature and allows this position to be reached. The pin 8<SP>1</SP> operates an auxiliary contact 27. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
