Abstract
1,168,090. Electromagnetic relays. C. E. GUTENTAG. 13 Dec., 1966 [13 Dec., 1965], No. 55859/66. Heading H1N. A "miniature" relay has a coil former 32 with U-shaped magnetic pole members 30, 31 attached to the former flanges 33, 34. The limbs of members 30, 31 extend in opposite directions and projecting parts of the centre of the U co-operate with a centrally pivoted armature 55 mounted on a pivot pin 58 in a sleeve 57 in the former bore 45 and located by the end, 64, of an armature biasing spring 63 and a retaining tab 63 secured to former flange 33. An accurately dimensioned movable contact 56 on the end of the armature 55 cooperates with fixed contacts 48, 49 which are mounted on an insulator 46 supported by connectors from sealed in terminals 26, 27, 28 and spaced to prevent engagement of the armature and pole members. The coil 35 is surrounded by a flux conducting sleeve 36 connecting the pole member 30, 31. Conducting rings for transient voltage suppression may be provided as a sleeve of metal such as silver inside the magnetic sleeve 36 and rings of the same material may be mounted between the former flanges 33, 34 and member 30, 31. The sleeve 57 may be as long as the former and form a shorted turn.
