Abstract
917,661. Automatic circuit-breakers. HEINEMANN ELECTRIC CO. May 15, 1959 [Jan. 2, 1959], No. 16779/59. Class 38 (5). An automatic circuit-breaker has an overloadresponsive electromagnetic tripping device comprising a coil 34 carried by a magnetic frame 29 having a gap 46 which is substantially closed by an armature portion 64 when attracted, attraction of this portion being normally restrained by a magnetic member 70 at the opposite end of the bifurcated armature. The member 70 acts as a counterbalance and is attracted to the vertical limb 31 of the frame until the flux acting on the portion 64 has increased sufficiently to attract it, this action being assisted on small overloads by the movement of a magnetic core within the coil 34. The tripping current may be determined by bending one or both members 68 to set the unattracted position of the armature.
