Abstract

956,432. Electromagnetic switches. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Nov. 16, 1962 [Nov. 23, 1961], No. 43443/62. Heading H2B. The cone-shaped ends of magnetic contact pins 5 in a sealed insulating chamber 4 are bridged by magnetic balls 8 when a coil 1 is energized. The contact points and balls may be coated with a precious metal to prevent sticking on de-energization. Since the pins 5 are bent to an angle of 45 degrees to the coil axis the switch will operate with its coil axis horizontal or vertical. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the coil is mounted on the pins instead of around the housing 4. In Fig. 3, insulating collars 9 prevent contact between the balls 8 and pin 5 when the switch is de-energized.
