Abstract

920,406. Switching systems for heating resistors. SIMPLEX ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. April 9, 1959 [April 10, 1958], No. 11329/58. Addition to 818,371. Class 38 (4). An electric heater 10 energized from a supply 12 as described and claimed in the parent Specification is modified to include starting contacts 16a, 16b in parallel with the cyclicallyoperated contacts 13a, 13b such that upon switching on, the heater 10 is overloaded for a predetermined period in order that the heating member associated with the heater 10 is rapidly brought up to its operating temperature. The contact 16b is carried by a bimetal strip 17 heated by means of a heating element 18 which is energized when the mains switch 19 is closed ; the members 16, 17, 18 being enclosed in a unit 20 remote from the heater 10 so as not to receive heat therefrom. The contacts 16a, 16b are arranged to open at the end of the overload period when the heater 10 is at its normal operating temperature, the heater 10 thereafter being energized over the contacts 13a, 13b in a cyclic manner.
