Abstract

1372627 Automatic control of temperature. DIMPLEX Ltd 8 Feb 1973 [8 Feb 1972] 5832/72 Heading G3R A temperature control apparatus for controlling temperature of a domestic room heating appliance 5 (Fig. 1) comprises a bi-metal strip thermal switch 1, 2, 3 provided with an auxiliary heater 7-the current through which is controlled by an NTC thermistor 6. The switch is thus responsive to heat generated by its own resistance 4, heat generated by the auxiliary heater and ambient temperature of surrounding air. In an alternative embodiment Fig. 3 (not shown) a PTC thermistor is employed instead of the NTC thermistor 6 and shunts the auxiliary heater. In a further embodiment Fig. 2 (not shown) the thermistor and auxiliary heater are connected in series across the heating appliance 5 so that when contacts 2, 3 are opened the bi-metal strip will cool more quickly than in the Fig. 1 embodiment. The thermistor may be mounted so as to respond to air surrounding the appliance. In the Fig. 1 embodiment, instead of employing the material of the bi-metal strip to generate heat, a separate accelerating resistance heater may be used (not illustrated).
