Abstract

1,270,833. 833. Electric heating systems, temperature control. DIAMOND H. CONTROLS Ltd. March 25, 1970 [March 11, 1969], No. 12788/69. Headings G3R and G3T. A block storage heater element 19, Fig. 1 is energized via snap action thermal relay contacts 12 and is maintained at a predetermined high temperature value during an "off-peak" tariff period pre-set on a time switch T and at a predetermined lower temperature level outside the off-peak period. A diaphragm 8 is connected to a sensor 10 which senses the block temperature. As the temperature increases the diaphragm opens successively normally closed contact pairs 2, 3. The diaphragm is displaceable by a knob K to preset the low temperature level while the high temperature level is pre-set by adjusting a screw 9. Outside the off-peak period the relay heater 15 is energized via contacts 2 and causes a bimetal strip 14 to bend and a screw 18 thereon effects closure of contacts 12 to energize the block heater element 19. During the off-peak period the relay heater 15 is energized via time switch T and contacts 3 to effect closure of contacts 12. Other block heaters may be connected in parallel, the time switch T carrying only the current necessary to heat the bi-metal strips of their control units. In a modification Fig. 2 (not shown) the contacts 2 and 3 carry the block heater current. In a modification Fig. 3 (not shown) the block heater current is carried by the time switch during the high temperature mode. In a further modification Fig. 4 (not shown) the block heater is energized only when the time switch T is closed. When the time switch is open a fan motor is energized.
