Abstract
597,946. Electric heating. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., SIMS, W.J., and BRUNT, B. P. March 21, 1945, No. 7139. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXV] In an electric heating system, the heating element is in two parts 2 and 3 which are connected in parallel or series respectively with the source of supply by the action of a thermalresponsive switch 1 which is heated by an auxiliary element 12 energized from the supply, the parts being in parallel when the switch is cold and in series when it is sufficiently heated. The switch comprises a bimetal element 4 carrying at its free end a contact 5 and an insulating member 11. On the element 4 deflecting, the contacts 5 and 6 are opened, contact 5 touching contact 7 to complete the series circuit, whilst member 11 breaks the parallel circuit at contacts 9 and 10, contact 9 being resiliently mounted for this purpose. It is intended that a separate thermal-responsive switch will open and close the main heating circuit periodically to maintain -the average watts input constant. U.S.A.
