Abstract

671,057. Thermal switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 24, 1949. [June 26, 1948] No. 16838/49. Class 38 (v). [Also in Group XI] A bimetallic switch located in a recess 7 at the rear of an electric iron (see Group XI), comprises a currentcarrying frame 30 attached to one end of the heating element 8, a spring arm 33 lying alongisde and spaced from the frame 30, and a bimetal strip 35 arranged between the parts 30 and 33 which at one end carry respectively contacts 31, 32, normally engaging. A rivet 36 at the other end secures the parts together, suitable insulation 34, 38 being provided. On flexing the bimetal 35 engages a set-screw 40 on the arm 33 to cause opening of the contacts 31, 32. The rivet 36 completes the circuit from the arm 33 to a plug pin on the iron. The switch is in effect carried by the element 8. Specification 144,767, [Class 38 (i)], is referred to.
