Abstract
678,760. Thermal switches. LUCAS, Ltd., J. April 20, 1951. [May 5, 1950] No. 11140/50. Class 38 (v). [Also in Group XXXVIII] A switch for flashing vehicle signal lamps comprises a fixed contact c mounted on a rigid member b, a movable contact h mounted on an iron part g carried by a springy member f, and a permanent magnet k mounted on a springy member j (shown as integral with f) and normally held in the position shown by an extensible wire or ribbon t. On closure of a series switch (not shown), the wire t is heated and allows the magnet to approach the iron part g, the latter being attracted by the magnet after a certain movement so as to open the contacts. The wire thus cools but the contact h is arrested by an insulating stop i, so that the contacts recloseand the cycle repeats. The members f, j may, alternatively, consist of two parts electrically connected together.
