Abstract

748,575. Thermal switches. COLLIER, R. April 22, 1954 [Oct. 19, 1953], No. 28806/53. Class 38(5) A "cycling" heat control switch has a bi-metal strip which is heated by the controlled current and forms part of a dead-centre snap toggle arrangement also comprising a C-spring and a pivoted contact carrier. The moving contact part 1 is carried on a part 10 of a U- shaped member 2 having apertures 300 engaging hook-shaped pivots 3. The member 2 is connected by the C-spring 11 to the free end of the bi-metal strip 6 which is pivoted in a bracket 4 and secured to a bar 9 having a member 16 biased against a setting cam 14 by a spring 17. Contact 1 is normally held against a fixed contact 12 by the interaction between the strip 6 and spring 11. Strip 6 has a series heater 18 on a mica member secured to the strip. Cam 14 has a recess 19 which cooperates with member 16 in the "off" position of the cam; in this position series contacts 21, 22 are also opened. The cam has an endless surface enabling it to be turned from "full on" to "off" or vice versa, without having to be rotated through: the whole 360 degrees.
