Abstract
587,069. Projectile fuzes. HUSKINSON, P., and DAWSON, P. J. Dec. 7, 1940, No. 17417.' [Class 9 (i)] In a nose or base percussion fuze having no striker or arming mechanism, the fuze body, or a member carried thereby, is located in contact with or close to a detonator 3 located in a housing in the projectile, the fuze forming a closure for the projectile maintaining the detonator secure against access from the exterior of the projectile. In the nose fuze shown in Fig. 1, the fuze body 4, in the form of a solid or hollow tapering screwed plug, is in contact with the detonator 3 or may be separated therefrom by a thin washer or distance piece, the thickness of which may determine the sensitivity of the fuze. The fuze shown is a sensitive one, the body 4 being formed of synthetic resin, the detonator 3 comprising a copper cap filled with lead azide. In the base fuze shown in Fig. 4, the detonator 3 in its housing 2 is located between washers 11, 12 and is retained by a fuze member 13 in the form of a screwed plug seating against the washer 12 and housing 2.
