Abstract
489,020. Projectile fuzes. BIRKIGT, M. Oct. 15, 1936, No. 28039. Void. Convention date, Sept. 11. [Class 9 (i)] The striker 6 of a direct - action percussion fuze is locked by a transverse centrifugal bolt 7 which is made like a screw to compel it to rotate during its outward movement to cause a delay in the arming of the fuze. The bolt is locked in position by the end of a pin 10 held up by a screw ring 10<1>. When a shot is fired, centrifugal force bends the end of the pin, as shown' in dotted lines, out of engagement with the bolt. The striker 6 may be connected to the closing disc 14. In a modification, the bolt 7 instead of being screw-threaded has a zigzag slot engaged by a projection on the striker so that it is made to oscillate about its axis during its outward movement.
