Abstract

484,882. Projectile fuzes. SAGEB SOC. ANON. DE GESTION ET D'EXPLOITATION DE BREVETS. Oct. 28, 1937, No. 29iOO. Convention date, Nov. 12, 1936. [Class 9 (i)] Relates to combined percussion and self-destruction fuzes for gyratory projectiles of the kind armed by the displacement of a safety ring by centrifugal locking devices. According to the invention, the movement of the safety ring 9 is delayed by a dash-pot action between the front end of the ring and the opposed shoulder 12a of the fuze body 2. As shown, a direct impact action striker 3 is normally locked by two sets of centrifugal balls 6, 8 confined by the safety ring 9, which is held in place by a split ring 10. On discharge, split ring 10 is opened out by centrifugal force and allows safety ring 9 to be wedged forward and compress a spring 7 by the centrifugal action of the balls 8, which release collar 3a of striker and pass behind the safety ring, thereby preventing its return. The striker 3, which has an enlarged head 4 behind a closing disc 11, is then ready to be forced back on impact to fire the primer 4a. If before impact centrifugal force falls below a given value, the balls 6, which are mounted in a sleeve 5, are wedged out of the safety ring 9 by the sring 7, and the sleeve 5 bears on the collar 3a and drives the striker on the primer.
