445,271. Projectile fuzes. VICKERSARMSTRONGS, Ltd., MORPETH. W., and HESELTINE, J. C. W., Vickers House, Broadway, Westminster. Sept. 5, 1934, No. 25583. [Class 9 (i)] Relates to combined time -and -percussion fuzes of the kind having a time-action striker H<1> and priming cap H within a direct-action impact striker F. According to the invention, the priming cap H bears against a shoulder H<5> on the body B of the fuze, so that the spring H6 separating the priming cap H from the time-action striker H<1> also serves to urge the direct-action striker F forward and thus relieves pressure therefrom on a safety device such as a centrifugal bolt f. The direct-action striker F, which is hollow to receive the time-action striker H<1> and priming cap H is cut out at its side to allow the priming cap to project out to bear on the shoulder H<6>. Passages, such as H<2>, allow the flash from the priming cap H<1> to pass to a powder pellet of a vent a<6> and also at one end of a short length a of time composition in the upper face of the ring A, which gives a minimum time zone of safety. The flash from the other end of this passes to the time composition a<2> in the lower face of the ring. When this ring is set for a given time, it establishes communication with powder pellets b<1> leading to the priming cap J, which is fired by this flash or by the blow of the direct-action striker F. The centrifugal bolt f is interconnected with a centrifugal shutter f<3> by a spindle f<2>, as described in Specification 440,338.
