Abstract
447,247. Projectile fuzes. TENNANT, W. J., 111, Hatton Garden, London.- (Schneider & Cie; 42, Rue d'Anjou, Paris) Nov. 29, 1935, No. 33209. [Class 9 (i)] Relates to projectile fuzes of the kind in which the firing mechanism and a centrifugal safety device therefor are carried by a rotatably mounted body so as to delay the arming operation of the centrifugal device, for example, as described in Specification 230,869, [Class 9 (i)]. According to the invention, this rotatable body constitutes the front part b<1> of the fuze body, the rear part a being fixed to the projectile, and the front part being detachably retained on the rear part by a nose-piece b<2> and a collar or nut b<3>. Ball bearings c, d are provided between the two parts. The firing mechanism comprises a momentum pellet e carrying the percussion cap f, and a direct-impact striker i carrying a firing pin il and covered by an easily destructible cap ,j. The safety device comprises centrifugal segments g encircled by a coil g<1>, and a sleeve h which, under the influence of a spring h<1>, bars the return of the segments after they have moved out to the armed position.
