Abstract

545,904. Projectile fuzes. ALADDIN INDUSTRIES, Ltd., and GILES, T. F. Sept. 16, 1940, No. 14216. [Class 9 (i)] Relates to firing-means for bombs and pyrotechnic devices dropped from aircraft and of the kind comprising an axially movable spring striker a adapted to be released automatically by a pull on a wire j when the bomb is dropped. According to the invention, a ball k is provided on the wire j within a flared mouth g so as to ensure an axial pull on the striker releasing device i whether the outer part l of the wire, to which the pull is applied, is axial or transverse. The releasing device i, is in the form of a cup with lateral holes containing balls h normally confined by a collar f to engage a groove e in the striker. The pull on the wire compresses the spring c of the striker and ultimately withdraws the balls h from the restraint of the collar f, whereupon the striker is released and fires a percussion cap, not shown. Before use, the striker is locked in safety by a split pin b.
