Abstract

404,163. Projectile fuzes. SCHNEIDER ET CIE, 42, Rue d'Anjou, Paris. March 6, 1933, No. 6762. Convention date, Dec. 20, 1932. [Class 9 (i).] A sensitive percussion fuze comprising a direct-action striker b and a momentum percussion cap c in a casing a held in place by a shear wire or its equivalent is arranged at a small distance x from a fixed shoulder, constituted for example by the front end of a sleeve f, so that on discharge the wire is partly sheared and offers only a weak resistance on impact, the resistance being however sufficient to hold the fuze in place during flight. During flight, centrifugal members g move out and allow the sleeve f to be retracted by a spring f<2>, thereby leaving the fuze free to act on impact. The gap x is adjusted by screwing the front part d of the fuze body more or less into the rear part e, and clamping the parts in adjusted position by a screw i. In a modification, an additional sleeve is provided around the spring f<2> and sets back temporarily during the period of acceleration on discharge to prevent any premature outward movement of the centrifugal members g. In other modifications the shear wire secures a thimble behind the fuze a, b, c, and the fuze is covered by a cap as described in Specifications 340,810 and 370,792. Reference is also made to Specification 402,969 where the shear wire of an ordinary directimpact striker is weakened in the same way.
