Abstract

218,586. RÚmondy, L. E. Aug. 16, 1923, [Convention date]. Projectiles; fuses.-A combined direct action and momentum-action percussion fuze G, of the kind described in Specification 172,326, is arranged at the front end of an elongated projectile or of a tube D or a ballistic cap E projecting beyond the projectile A, and a similar fuze C is arranged in rear of the first fuze. This second fuze is operated by the blow of the gasses from the first fuze and serves to explode the projectile. One or more similar fuzes may be interposed between these two fuzes. As shown in Fig. 1, the fuze comprises a directaction striker G, G<1> secured by a shear pin g to the tube D. The walls of this striker extend backwards and enclose the momentum detonator pellet G<2> which is kept back by a spring G<3>. A washer G<4> is interposed over the detonator pellet, and extends through slots G<5> in the wall of the direct-action striker, so as to bear against an inward flange d in the tube D. The ballistic cap E is attached to the tube D at the front end, and is secured to the projectile at the rear end by means of a disc E', which is clamped under the flange of the fuze carrier B.
