Projectile fuzes. - Percussion fuzes are provided with a device x which is displaced longitudinally on impact to an extent depending on the resistance of the target, whereby a delay proportional to said resistance is introduced in the action of the fuze. In the fuze shown, the impact, whether on a hard or soft target, drives the firing-pin, 23 into the detonator 26, but the plunger x, which is held back by a spring 30, remains in place when the impact is weak, and moves forward to a varying extent according to the resistance of the target when the target is hard; the flash is therefore transmitted directly through the ports 27, 35, 32, 33 on impact with a weak target, but a varying length of a delay composition 37 is interposed between the ports 27 and 35 when the target is strong, the delay varying with the resistance of the target. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also a fuze, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), in which impact on a hard target crushes the cap 2 and fires the detonator 8, while a plunger x is maintained pressed against a nut 12; the flash is then transmitted to the port 18 by a delay patch 17. When impact is on a soft object, the cap 2 is not deformed, and the detonator 8 is thrust against the firing-pin 3 by the momentum of the plungers 5, x; the forward movement of the plunger x then uncovers ports 13, 15, which transmit the flash without delav. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
