417,288. Projectile fuzes. SCHNEIDER ET CIE, 42, Rue d'Anjou, Paris. Dec. 4, 1933, No. 34033. Convention date, April 28. [Class 9 (i).] Relates to combined direct-action and momentum-action percussion fuzes comprising a direct-action striker b normally held in place by a shear pin b<1> and a momentum plunger c carrying a percussion cap d. According: to the invention, a spring g<1> is cocked by an inertia sleeve g when the shot is fired, and during flight drives the plunger c forward, in dash-pot like manner, until a safety barrier f in front of it is moved by a spring f<1> and centrifugal force into an enlargement a<2> in the fuze body, allowing the striker band the percussion cap d to approach each other on impact. The plunger is normally locked against rotation and longitudirial displacement by a bolt i which is moved out by centrifugal force to permit the operation of the spring g'. The flash from the percussion cap may be transmitted directly through a port j<1> in a bolt j or through a byepass. e<5> and a delay patch e<2> if the port j<1> is shut. This is done by the removal of a pin k, Fig. 6, which allows the bolt to be moved aside by a spring j<2> to a position where the port j<1> is out of line with the flash passage e<4>.
