Abstract
213,547. RÚmondy, L. E. March 26, 1923, [Convention date]. Projectile fuzes. - A relay charge E and a delay charge D are placed in a socket B having a fore part B' of smaller diameter and a thick conical or like nose B<2> forming a shield, which takes up the shock of the explosion of the cap of the percussion fuze G, and deflects the flash to the annular space a<1> whence the flash passes to the delay charge D through lateral holes b in the fore end B<1> of the socket. In this way, destruction of the delay charge is prevented and correct delay ensured. The inner wall of the chamber containing the delay charge D is grooved. The relay charge E is of quick-burning powder and is closed in by a disc C, which is crimped over a flange b<1> at the rear end of the socket. This flange is held in place against the end of the fuze body A by the casing of the exploder I which is screwed to the body A, felt washers F, H being interposed. The percussion fuze G is constructed as described in Specification 172,326, and is secured to the fuze body A by a shear pin g. Several holes b may be provided at different levels, and be pierced or uncovered by screws P<1>, P<2>, Fig. 2, according to the delay desired. In a modification, Fig. 3. the nose R<2> is constituted by a separate thimble having lateral holes b<2> which, by a partial rotation of the thimble, can be made to register more or less with the holes b in the socket according to the delay desired.
