Abstract
561,927. Projectiles. SAGEB SOC. ANON. DE GESTION ET D'EXPLOITATION DE BREVETS. June 27, 1941, No. 8123. Convention date, Nov. 9, 1939. [Class 9 (i)] A projectile for attacking armour and which contains a hollow-ended bursting charge, comprises a body 1, a nose-cap 2, a hood 5 which is preferably conical with its apex pointed towards the base of the projectile so that an air space is confined between the hood and the cap, and means attached to the nose-cap for firing a detonator in the rear of the explosive 3 contained in the projectile. The fuze means may be a burning time fuze 8 leading from an ignition cap 7 to the primer 9 at the base of the projectile, or a striker rod may be fixed to the nose and adapted to ignite a percussion fuze fixed at the base of the explosive, or a sensitive fuze at the nose communicating through a central tube to a priming charge. It is stated that when the projectile explodes the hood is folded up and transformed into a core and has imparted to it a velocity greater than the other parts of the projectile. 'The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the use of secondary detonators 4 located in the bursting charge and additional hollow conical bodies laterally disposed, as shown. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
