Abstract

548,595. Projectiles. SAGEB SOC. ANON. DE GESTION ET D'EXPLOITATION DE BREVETS. July 4, 1941. No. 8468. Convention date, Jan. 12, 1940. [Class 9 (i)] Relates to illuminating projectiles of the kind having within the front portion of the body a parachute 6, flare 8 and ejecting charge 10, and within the reduced tubular perforated tail portion a propelling cartridge 21. According to the invention, the tail portion is rotatable to adjust the the time fuze for the ejecting charge, such rotation serving to register with the firing means one of a number of fuze trains 17 in an axial rod 16 having a mushroom head 14 for supporting the flare. In the form shown, the eccentric firing pin 22, actuated by the pressure of the propellent gases, pierces a safety plate 23 and strikes the appropriate cap 18 for firing one of three fuze trains 17 leading to the ejecting charge which also fires the igniter 9 of the flare. The parachute and flare are contained in a divided casing 11 the parts of which separate on expulsion from the detachable nose 4 by the spring 12. Additional propelling charges 26 are mounted between the tail fins 24 and a retaining member 27.
