Abstract

122,128. Stow, A. H. June 27, 1918. Projectiles. - Consists in a gas-shell or bomb which comprises a comparatively thin breakable body or casing 10, enclosing a lead or like gasoontainer 30, the casing 10 having heavy ends 11, 20 which crush the casing between them on im. pact, the gas being thereby liberated without the use of an explosive charge or fuse. A hollow contour cap 15 is screwed on to the end 11, and is flattened out when impact occurs, thus preventing penetration of the shell. The rear piece 20 has a charging aperture 21, through which the gas is passed under pressure, a valve 32 and a removable plug 25 being provided.
