Abstract

128,248. Taylor, N. B. June 30, 1917. Projectiles.-Armourpiercing at oblique angles is facilitated by making the nose of a. projectile with a number of undercut cutting-edges 11<a> between annular grooves or between the convolutions of a spiral groove. The nose ends in a point 15, Fig. 5, as usual, or is hollowed out as at a, Figs. 9 and 11. The nose is made integral with the body of the projectile or is attached thereto, in which case it may be built up of rings 18, Fig. 9, and a fore-piece 19. Plugs 22, Fig. 11, may be inserted radially in the nose around its periphery. The grooves may be covered by a frangible casing 13, Fig. 5, which may enclose the nose completely or may cover the nose only in rear of the front cutting-edge 12.
