Abstract
496,792. Projectiles. FABRY, J. March 30, 1938, No. 9729. Convention date, March 31, 1937. [Class 9 (i)] A projectile 3 which is discharged from a gun barrel having a smooth bore by a cartridge 4 housed in a tail-piece 1 having stabilizing fins 2, has the passages 6, by which the combustion gases pass to the gun barrel, inclined rearwardly to direct the gases into the hottest part of the gun and so improve combustion. Additional charges 5 in the form of rings may be mounted on the tail-piece rearwardly of the leading orifices 6. Small orifices 6<11> may be provided in the rear of the tail-piece into which the metal of the cartridge case may be forced by the explosion, to prevent the separation of the cartridge from the tail-piece. The tail-piece and projectile may be coupled by interengaging screw-threads, the start of the threads being marked on the exterior, and the externally screwed member having an extension whose diameter is the same as that of the base of the thread, to facilitate assembly. The externally screwed member has its end face recessed to accommodate any grease &c. which would otherwise prevent the complete assembly of the parts.
