555,696. Projectiles. SILSON, F. H. June 8, 1942, No. 7776. Addition to 546,348. [Class 9 (i)] A modification of the invention of the parent Specification comprises the provision of a socket bearing 13 in an extension 11 of the barrel block 10 for the end of the retaining spring 14 of the multipin firing plunger 16, this socket communicating with passage 12. 15 for the time fuse which fires the charge at the rear of the firing plunger to cause it to be forced forwardly to fire the cartridges positioned in the rifled bores 21 of the head portion of the projectile. The firing plunger, spring, and barrel block are formed as a unitary assemblage for attachment to the head portion. In a further modification the barrel block is dispensed with and the recesses 25, 27 for the heads of the cartridges and the retaining spring respectively are formed directly in the head portion itself to which the firing plunger is directly attached by screws engaging apertures 26 in the head.
