Abstract

149,362. Hadfield, Sir R. A., and Jack, A. G. M. April 25, 1918. Projectiles.-Relates to projectiles in which the driving band d is fitted into a groove cut in the rear part of the projectile but slightly in advance of the base b<1> so as to leave a Closing shoulder a<2> at the rear end of the groove. According to the invention, the rear end of the projectile is strengthened by making the groove shallower towards the front, the bottom a of the groove increasing in diameter gradually, as shown, or by steps towards the front end, where a small shoulder a<1> is left. The shoulders are undercut and the bottom of the groove made with waved ridges c, as usual.
